Welcome to our weekly Xbox news recap series, where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Xbox. Let’s get started.
Fortnite getting crossplay between Xbox and mobile
Here’s an unexpected one: Fortnite, the massive battle royale game that’s been giving PUBG a run for its money, is coming out on mobile devices. The game will be coming out to mobile users in waves as they test it out, and it’s going to have a cross play feature with Xbox and PC. Mobile players will be able to opt in to queuing with Xbox and PC players, but Xbox/PC players won’t be able to opt into playing with mobile players, in order to keep it fair.
Crash Bandicoot coming to Xbox
The impossible is happening – Crash Bandicoot, one of the biggest Playstation exclusive franchises, is coming to the Xbox One in July. The N. Sane trilogy will be coming out on both Xbox, PS4, and PC on July 10th, giving everyone who hasn’t gotten a chance to try out the Playstation classic series their shot at some old school gaming, with a new coat of paint.
Microsoft premieres Inside Xbox
Microsoft has premiered Inside Xbox, a new monthly stream that’s going to be covering the hottest topics in the future of Xbox. The first episode came out great – it was nearly two hours long, and had some interesting interviews and other bits of coverage that were a great watch for any Xbox fans. If you miss old TV shows like X-Play, it felt almost like an homage to them. Keep an eye out!
New avatars teased in Windows dev day presentation
During this week’s “Windows dev day” presentation, we got a few frames of the new avatars that Microsoft has been subtly teasing. The peak at the new avatar showed us more of what we already knew: the new models are a huge upgrade over the old ones. They have more defined features, some shadow mapping, more subtle colors – they’re just better in every way.
