Welcome to our weekly Xbox news recap series, where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Xbox. Let’s get started.
Name of the next Tomb Raider game leaks
The next Tomb Raider game looks like it’s going to be called “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” according to a leaked document that surfaced earlier this week. A particularly sneaky Tomb Raider fan snapped a photo of someone’s laptop as they seemed to be working on a presentation for the next game. While just about everything else in the photo is blurry, you can make out the “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” logo on top. This might be a working title, but it’s enough to excite the fan base a little.
Xbox leads sales in the United Kingdom
According to a report on Gamesindustry.biz, the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 in September by only 1,500 units – but in October, this gap widened all the way to 25,000, making Xbox account for 54% of console sales that month. This comes at a time where Xbox One has been selling exceptionally well across the board, and gives Xbox fans more reasons to be excited for the future of their console of choice.
Phil Spencer says VR won’t go mainstream for a few years
Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke a little bit about the future of VR in gaming, and had a few interesting points. In an interview with Stevivor, Spencer talked about how VR is going to be taking a few years before it can really take off. He drew some comparisons between VR and the Kinect, which ended up just becoming a “Dance Central Box.” It’ll be interesting to see how Spencer’s take on VR ends up shaping the direction of Scorpio, and its relationship with AR/VR games.
It may be a while for a new Xbox after the release of Project Scorpio
Speaking of Phil Spencer, he had a few things to say about the future of Xbox once Project Scorpio comes out. In an interview, he said that he doesn’t have any interest in releasing a new console every two years like some people are fearing. Assuming that Phil is speaking the truth here – and we assume that he is – you shouldn’t have to worry about your Scorpio becoming outdated any time soon. “I don’t have this desire to every two years have a new console on the shelf,” Spencer said. “That’s not part of the console business model, and it doesn’t actually help us.”
Here are the games that came out this week:
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launches on Xbox One
- 100 Atari video games are now playable on the Xbox One
- Limbo is now Backward Compatible on Xbox One
- Blue Dragon comes to Xbox One Backward Compatibility
- Super Dungeon Bros launches today on Xbox One, free for Gold subscribers
