Microsoft has announced that first-gen Xbox One consoles and Xbox One S consoles will be getting the ability to record 1080p video game footage and save it (if they choose) onto an external hard drive. Currently both consoles can record 720p gameplay footage which is restricted to being saved on the console itself.

The new capability is also being tested today with Xbox Insiders who have installed the new Preview Alpha build available (1710.170910-1900) that began to roll out this morning. Regular Xbox One owners will be able to record 1080p recording later in the year. Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One X console has already been confirmed to support 4K video game footage.

Do you record your gaming directly on your console or do you use another method? Let us know in the comments below.
