Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra confirmed earlier today that today’s update to the Blu-ray Player app on Xbox One will bring added functionality for BD-R and BD-RE disks to the new Xbox One S console. While the app has updated on the original Xbox One as well, the changes appear limited to the Xbox One S for the time being.
For those asking… yes, Xbox One S will support BD-R and BD-RE. App update should happen today. #Xbox

BD-R and BD-RE stand for Writable and Re-Writable Blu-ray disks respectively. As their names imply, they are a format of Blu-ray disks that can be burned or written on in the same way as the DVD-R and DVD-RE disks of old.
Will you be using this new functionality or is this a feature that’s nice to have but will be barely used? Let us know in the comments below.
