The latest updates to the Xbox Insider channels have apparently greatly increased the downloading speed for video games on the Xbox consoles, as observed by Xbox enthusiast, @IdleSloth84_.
While downloading games, @IdleSloth84 noticed that the speed would go up to 380 MB/second while games were running in the background, and 480 MB/second with no games running. Other Xbox users said they noticed an increase to 800 MB/second, which is 10 times faster than the average of 40 to 80 MB/second.
This is all due to the latest updates coming to the Alpha Skip-Ahead insider channel, where Xbox mentioned one of the new features and experiences coming to Xbox Series X, and S was an improved downloading experience while playing games.
We have made additional network optimizations to improve content downloads while games are running.
Xbox
This improvement comes right at the time when the dialogue on Xbox going entirely digital is being held. By going entirely digital, there would be no point in purchasing video games in a physical form, something not all Xbox users, and gamers, agree with.
It also sparked a whole conversation on whether Xbox will stop working on new consoles, or will get entirely into publishing, something Phil Spencer, head at Xbox, dismissed.
However, it’s still good to see Xbox providing faster internet speeds, given that the Xbox app has been struggling to reach 1 MB/second sometimes. The improvement will no doubt be well received by Xbox users, everywhere, assuming they have the right Internet speed to match the download speed of the app.
But it could add fire to the already ‘going entirely digital’ conversation that’s been happening recently.
The improvement is available within the Xbox Insider Program, and it will take a few days/weeks to be released to the general public, but once it’s there, make sure your Internet provider can match the enormous downloading speed.
