Back in September Discord was made publicly available on Xbox.  However, in order to connect to Discord using your Xbox a mobile phone has been required, but that requirement will soon be going away.  Xbox Insiders in the Alpha and Skip Ahead Alpha rings can begin testing the feature today.  You’ll be able to see all the voice channels for all the Discord servers you are in, and you no longer need to transfer the call using either the Discord or Xbox app.

You still can’t participate in text chats on Discord directly from your Xbox, and there’s no sign when or if that feature will be added.  You would only need a phone now for Disord calls if you wanted to call a friend directly and not through a server.  You would still need the Discord app to transfer the call to your Xbox. As with most features in the Xbox testing rings, you can expect this to be publically available in a few weeks.
