40 More Games Join the XBOX Handheld Compatibility List
The XBOX handheld update for July 18 adds 40 more games to Microsoft’s portable gaming compatibility program, as True Achivements reports. The additions include 18 handheld-optimized games and 22 handheld-compatible titles.
Microsoft continues to expand its portable gaming library as more than 20 games are also coming to XBOX between July 20 and July 24. The latest compatibility update applies to the XBOX Ally and other supported Windows handheld devices.
Microsoft Expands XBOX Handheld Game Support
The handheld compatibility program helps players understand how well a Windows game should work on a portable device before installing it.
Microsoft classifies games as either handheld-optimized or handheld-compatible. Optimized titles should provide the best experience with minimal configuration, while compatible games may require some manual adjustments.
18 Games Are Now Handheld-Optimized
Handheld-optimized games should provide readable text, suitable controller support, and recommended performance settings without requiring significant changes.

XBOX Game Pass Titles Join the Handheld Program
Several XBOX Game Pass games appear in the July 18 update. No Man’s Sky now carries the handheld-optimized classification.
Abyssus, Ascend to Zero, and RV There Yet? have received handheld-compatible status. Game Pass subscribers can play these titles on supported portable Windows devices without relying on their main console or desktop setup.
Microsoft Continues Expanding the XBOX Ecosystem
The handheld additions arrive alongside several other XBOX updates. Microsoft recently added 52 titles to the Stream Your Own Game library, giving players more options for cloud streaming games they already own.
The July 2026 XBOX system update also introduced longer gamertags, while the XBOX Game Pass August 2026 lineup currently includes five confirmed games.
Microsoft has also explained why Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was removed from XBOX Game Pass. Together, these updates show Microsoft’s continued focus on handheld gaming, cloud streaming, and subscription-based access.
