When Baldur’s Gate 3 was first announced for Xbox Series S and X, it was expected to be a three-disc game. While that did come as a surprise to many given advancements in modern-day media storage, as it turns out, the game will instead have an extra disc, i.e., a total of four.
This is because Larian Studios had an additional 500 MB over the three-disc limit and had to bring in a fourth one. Because cutting content wasn’t a viable option!
This was confirmed by Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
For those who don’t know, this is still an improvement over the previous versions. The first in the series, Baldur’s Gate, came with 5 discs at one point, while the sequel had 6.
As per the initial announcement, the PlayStation edition was to come loaded on 2 discs. But we can expect an additional disc or two, given how the situation changed for Xbox.
Balder’s Gate 3 won The Game Award for the Game of the Year and several others in 2023 and has been a popular choice amongst the community. Though the game’s system requirements have been a cause of concern for some.
Now, an additional disc and a slightly delayed delivery (by a week), as confirmed by Michael Douse, could upset a few fans. Some reports state that Balder’s Gate 3 is the first game on Xbox Series S and X to come with as many as 4 discs!
Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition Box is available for pre-order at $79.99 for all three platforms, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, on the official website.
