Windows Subsystem for Android deprecation

Sad news for WSA users: the Windows Subsystem for Android deprecation will happen on March 5, 2025, leaving users with only a year to experiment with mobile apps on Windows 11 devices.

Windows Subsystem for Android, which enabled Windows 11 devices to run Android applications that are available in the Amazon Appstore, will no longer support installing new applications starting today March 5, 2024. However, the apps that were already installed can be accessed on the platform for one more year.

The Redmond-based tech giant quietly updated the official page for the platform with the warning that the deprecation will happen in a year, stating:

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android™️ (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025.

Microsoft

However, until the deprecation happens, users will still receive technical support from Microsoft when dealing with all sorts of issues, and as we mentioned earlier, they will also have access to apps that are already installed.

Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025. Microsoft

The Redmond-based tech giant hasn’t stated why it’s ending the program, but the company will most likely provide users with an official statement as the deprecation date approaches.

Windows Subsystem for Android is available as a platform within Insider channels, such as the Dev channel, where it receives updates regularly. Microsoft hasn’t stated if the platform will continue to receive any new updates, coming its deprecation, but chances are it will not receive them so often.

The Windows Subsystem for Android deprecation will surely upset many Windows Insiders, and those passionate about accessing Android apps on Windows 11 devices, so it is indeed sad news.

One more for the Microsoft Graveyard, right?
