Apple is notorious for its high store fees, and this sparked trouble between Apple and the EU in the past.
This is just the beginning, Epic Games has already filed a lawsuit against Apple, but now it seems that other tech giants are joining in.
Four additional tech companies are joining the fight against Apple
Apple Store policies have been criticized for a while, and as MSPowerUser writes, it seems that Meta, Microsoft, Spotify, Match Group, and Epic Games are teaming up to challenge them.
The main concern is Apple’s commission fees which can reach up to 30% for in-app purchases. Apple already had legal issues due to this, and to address them, it allowed the developers to include a single link to an external payment system.
Other tech giants are arguing that this decision doesn’t follow the court’s decision because the external links don’t allow users to learn properly about different and cheaper alternatives.
Although many are criticizing the high fees, Apple was quick to defend them stating that they are necessary to cover the costs of development, security, and maintenance of the App Store.
Department of Justice is still deciding whether to file an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, and we expect to find out the official verdict soon.
As for Apple and its problems with the EU, after Apple complied with the DMA the number of Opera users is rising which leads us to believe that Apple, like many other tech giants, is using unfair business practices.
