Copilot Chat is getting a new floating window in Outlook for Mac and iPad, allowing users to keep Copilot visible while working with email.

Microsoft announced the change to IT administrators through Microsoft 365 Message Center post MC1454996. The company says the new experience should reduce context switching between Outlook and Copilot.

Copilot Chat gets a new Pop out button

Copilot Chat will include a new Pop out button that moves the assistant into a dedicated floating window.

Users can continue reading, writing, and managing email in the main Outlook interface while interacting with Copilot at the same time.

A Return button moves Copilot back into Outlook, while a Close button exits Copilot Chat completely.

This gives users three ways to use the feature: it can be used embedded inside Outlook, opened in a floating window, or closed entirely.

Outlook for Mac gets more window controls

Outlook for Mac users will have more control over the floating Copilot window.

They can drag the window, resize it, and position it within the Outlook window frame. This lets users decide how much screen space Copilot should occupy while they work.

The iPad version offers fewer controls. Users can resize Copilot Chat vertically and move the floating window horizontally while keeping their email visible.

Rollout starts later in August 2026

Microsoft plans to start rolling out the feature later in August 2026, with availability expected to expand over the following few weeks.

The change will reach Outlook for Mac and iPad users who already have access to Copilot Chat. IT administrators do not need to configure anything.

In other Outlook news, KB5121003 is causing problems with Outlook and Teams on ARM64 PCs.

Microsoft also previously planned to bring Copilot to Outlook Classic, although the company has since confirmed that Copilot is going missing from Classic Outlook.
