Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra confirmed earlier today via his official Twitter account that the Blu-ray Player app for the Xbox One would be getting an update which would add support for 4K television sets. “Yes, the BR app on Xbox One will soon upscale to 4K for those with 4K TVs,” his tweet said.

While the newer Xbox One S video game console has support for playing 4K Blu-rays, this app update will not bring that specific functionality to the regular Xbox One. Instead, it will simply allow for upscaling of regular Blu-rays when played on 4K television sets. This should, in theory, improve the overall presentation of the media.
