The Microsoft Surface channel on Youtube released six new videos today about the newly announced device, the Surface Studio. More specifically, the videos highlight how app developers are using the related Surface Dial to innovate how users interact with the digital world.

Bluebeam is on the way to eliminating paper from architecture and design thanks to the smooth integration of the Surface Dial. The peripheral is able to slide through layers and zoom into the design so that the user can use the pen to draw, write, and edit.

Similarly, Drawboard designed a protractor tool that rotates along with the device’s degrees.

For artists of the more traditional media, Surface Studio opens up the potential of a new canvas. Gone are the days of buying multiple brush sizes and paint colors. With Mental Canvas, the Surface Dial has specific zones that will let the user switch between colors and sizes with a simple shift of their hand leaving the other to paint and create.

Originally inspired by the Surface, Sketchable also picked up the Surface Dial. Their app has programmed the accessory to rotate images for easier drawing angles.

Even more unique applications like StaffPad for writing music have found ways to utilize the Surface Dial for the better. Users can adjust notes up and down, undo and redo, and even stamp the music from one line to the other.

These are just examples of how Microsoft is recreating how artists interact with the digital world. You can check out all of the videos together on the Surface Youtube channel.
