As noted in a post on Xbox Wire, Gears 5: Operation 3 Gridiron is available to play free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One and Windows 10. Starting today until April 12, 2020, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can play Operation 3 Gridiron for free as part of a special edition of Free Play Days. Gears 5 is already available for free as part of an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
Operation 3 Gridiron is a free upgrade for those who already own Gears 5 on Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam. Operation 3 Gridiron is a no-holds-barred version of capture-the-flag in the Gears 5 universe. Players on teams (5v5) have a single life to grab the flag and run it into the opponents’ end zone. Each round is two-minutes and the first team to score 13 points wins. As an added bonus, if you play now through April 20, 2020, you will receive the Batista Bomb execution and Batista skin.
In addition, Xbox One players can earn up to 500 Microsoft Rewards points for watching the new Operation 3 Gridiron trailer, earning any of the Xbox achievements added for Operation 3, and by watching Gears 5 on Mixer. If you are not an Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you can sign up today using the links below.
You can buy Gears 5 right now for 50% off at $29.99 in the Microsoft Store. For a limited time, if you buy Gears 5 from the Microsoft Store, you will receive 15% off Gears 5 Tactics, which is slated to be released on April 28, 2020. It is important to note that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play Gears 5 Tactics free at launch.
