Xbox Nano Controller Launches Tomorrow With Hidden Wi-Fi Feature for Better Cloud Gaming
The upcoming Xbox Nano controller reportedly has a trick up its sleeve that could make cloud gaming more responsive. The tiny controller can connect directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming over Wi-Fi, potentially reducing input lag without relying on a conventional Bluetooth connection.
Xbox Nano reportedly hides a direct-to-cloud feature
According to The Verge, the Xbox Nano controller can connect directly to Microsoft’s cloud servers. The feature reportedly remains unannounced, despite the controller’s launch tomorrow.

In simple terms, the controller’s inputs can travel through Wi-Fi rather than taking the usual route through a gaming device. That could make a difference when playing games streamed over the internet. Even small delays between pressing a button and seeing the result can affect fast-paced games, particularly shooters and competitive titles.
Xbox could bring the same trick to other controllers
Setting up the feature reportedly requires pairing the Nano controller with Xbox Cloud Gaming servers over Wi-Fi through the Xbox mobile app. Interestingly, the feature may not remain exclusive to the miniature controller. Tom Warren, who reported about the feature, expects that the upcoming Xbox Elite 3 controller to include similar feature, though there is no official announcement about the same or the controller itself.
Going by the claims, it seems the Nano’s cloud connection could offer a useful advantage as Microsoft expands gaming over traditional consoles. However, actual latency improvements will rely on network conditions and how widely the feature is supported. In case you are looking to grab the tiny controller, you can pre-order it here.
