Microsoft Build 2024 is happening these days and the Redmond-based tech giant has made some important announcements.
Aside from the ever-present focus on AI, with the release of Copilot + PC devices, Copilot extensions, Team Copilot, and so on, the company announced that it finally added Maps control, one of the most requested capabilities, to WinUI 3, and Windows App SDK.
WinUI 3 is a user interface framework for Windows apps. This feature, which lets apps display maps, uses WebView 2 and Azure Maps, and developers are now able to experience by downloading and installing the latest version of the interface (WinUI 3 Gallery App) here.
WinUI 3, and Windows App SDK also support .NET 8, and thanks to it apps can start up faster, take up less space on your device, and use new features available in the .NET 8 runtime.
And, Microsoft also announced that some Microsoft apps, such as Photos and File Explorer, as well as apps from other developers (Apple’s TV, Music, iCloud) have been updated to use WinUI 3, making them faster and more efficient all-around.
