i am a mac guy

The I’m a Mac guy, Justin Long, who had earlier switched to Intel, was recently seen during the Snapdragon Computex 2024 Keynote.

In a dig by Qualcomm aimed at Apple, the 30-second performance shows Long getting persistent notifications on macOS, a fact he’s visibly upset about. A few seconds later, he’s seen searching for Where can I find snapdragon powered pc on a Macbook, a subtle, yet effective, hint for Mac users to switch to the Windows OS.

In the last few years, many have complained about increasing notifications and pop-ups on macOS. The notifications appearing on the screen during Justin’s Long performance include messages, news, app compatibility and low battery alerts, device connection errors, emails, and reminders.

Toward the end of the act, Long says, “What, Things change” while sipping a cup of coffee!

The dig by Qualcomm comes on the heels of the release of Copilot+ PCs, a new class of PCs with AI capabilities powered by the Snapdragon X Elite. Its release is set for June 18, 2024.

While effective to a certain extent, the campaign with Justin Long, the I am a Mac guy, also raised questions about the Windows ecosystem.

Users rightly point out incessant notifications on Windows

While this dig by Snapdragon, aimed at Apple, might have been hilarious to a few, others were quick to highlight how Windows itself isn’t in the best of positions to be making such claims. Here’s what a few said,

Windows taking the “MacOS has too many notifications” angle is funny to me, as somebody that only switched to MacOS a month or so ago because I was tired of the literal ads and forced restarts on Windows.

Opposed to Windows which makes sure to tell you that Defender did in fact not find any threats and 10 other annoying things that I definitely did not ask for.
The audacity to go for that angle with how annoying Windows 11 is all around…

My professionally-managed Windows 11 PC literally had an otter in the search bar the other day because it was World Otter Day…like you’re going to go after Apple for UX frivolity?

My husband used to be a Mac user years ago and made the switch to Windows cos that’s all I know (despite owning many different Apple devices).
He hates how many notifications his Windows laptop has whenever he opens it up… update reminders, expired firewall/antivirus notifications, windows defender reminders, other random notifications too… he hates it.

As a long-time Windows user, I am not too sure about macOS, but I have seen a massive number of complaints about persistent notifications in Windows in the last few years. And things don’t seem to be improving!

However, you can always disable popups in Windows 11 or even macOS. It just takes a bit of time and effort.

Nevertheless, the release of Copilot+ PCs has rekindled the macOS vs Windows debate. Many are comparing the latest Surface Laptop with MacBook Air.
