Microsoft released Edge 127 to the Stable Channel, which includes not one but three critical security updates and an exciting feature known as organizational branding customization.
The security updates come from Chrome and are minor adjustments and vital corrections to fix possible weaknesses. One of these, CVE-2024-6990, has been labeled as critical because it can let remote attackers do out-of-bounds memory access via a crafted HTML page. The remaining two, CVE-2024-7255 and CVE-2024-7256, confront comparable dangers but are seen as high severity. This highlights the ongoing chase between software creators and cyber dangers.
The organizational branding customization will allow users to brand Edge with their organization’s logo and marketing visuals. Picture this scenario: when you log into your browser at work, it appears as part of your workspace. You can recognize it by visual hints such as the company logo and color scheme—precisely what this characteristic provides.
It’s made for users to quickly tell apart their personal and professional profiles, making it less likely they’ll mix work with private browsing. The customization covers profile pill, profile flyout, and Edge for Business taskbar icon.
But why is this important? For IT admins, it’s like a dream come true. It makes the control of company-branded items on Edge for Business simpler and better at the same time. And for all of us, it’s a glimpse into the future where browsers are becoming more than just entry points to the Internet but also important parts of a company’s digital environment.
This is not the first time Microsoft has released something like this. Last year, the Redmond-based tech giant released Branded Meetings within Microsoft Teams, which acts similarly to this. Companies could brand their meetings, webinars, or events held with Teams with their own logos.
