Microsoft recently announced the release of Windows 11 Build 22631.4534 (KB5046732) to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. The new update introduces a range of features and improvements, which are being rolled out in phases.
The Start menu now supports jump lists when you right-click pinned apps, while the system tray displays abbreviated date and time information. The notification bell icon may not appear when the “Do not disturb” toggle is enabled, but clicking on the date and time will show messages in the notification center. Users can return to the full date and time format via the system settings.
New touch and mouse settings have also been added. Windows 11 users with touchscreen devices can now disable specific edge gestures via the Bluetooth & Devices settings page, and the mouse settings page now has the option to turn off enhanced pointer precision.
Several new features have been added to Microsoft’s search functionality in Windows 11. For example, the IFilters feature (which lets users search for and within specific file types from File Explorer) now runs in less privileged app containers. This means that even if a process is compromised, it cannot access sensitive system components and data.
Other changes in Windows 11 Build 22631.4534 include the ability to share content to an Android device from the context menu in File Explorer, a refreshed look for the dynamic lighting settings page in the Display settings, and new options for the Narrator screen reader, including the ability to skip past links in documents and on webpages. Speaking of Narrator, Microsoft also debuted new shortcuts to the feature this week.
The latest Windows 11 build also includes several Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-related bug fixes. Microsoft says that the update resolves an issue that can cause Bluetooth LE Audio devices, like hearing aids, to stop streaming audio and another problem where the game bar can cause a connected mouse to become “unlocked” from a game window.
Microsoft notes that the update also addresses an issue that can cause devices to fail to connect to Wi-Fi networks that broadcast SSIDs with special characters.
