microsoft unified store office

Microsoft will soon let users purchase Copilot agents for Office apps directly in these apps through a so-called unified store. The Redmond-based tech giant confirmed this in a recent entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. These agents can be discovered, acquired, and managed through the new store, which will be added to Office documents directly.

This means you won’t have to leave Word or PowerPoint to scout for AI agents on another platform. The activity can be done on the same page, ensuring your workflow and productivity are not disturbed.

Here’s what the entry says:

With Copilot extensibility, users can discover, acquire, and manage agents through the unified store. We are excited to introduce the Microsoft 365 unified store to Office documents, enabling users to discover, acquire, and manage agents directly within the in-app store for Word and PowerPoint, with Excel support coming soon.

The Copilot agents were announced a while ago and recently introduced to Microsoft Teams. The Redmond-based tech giant said the Microsoft 365 apps will get them, but it hasn’t mentioned a unified store. Word and PowerPoint will be the first to get the unified store, with Excel support coming in the following months.

Microsoft will release the new unified store for the Office apps in December 2024 and make it generally available.
