Recent rumors have excited Halo fans, suggesting that Halo 5: Guardians might be going to PC after being an Xbox exclusive for a decade. The game was spotted on Lenovo’s website’s upcoming Legion Go S handheld, potentially indicating that an announcement is on the horizon.

The Halo series has been a flagship for Xbox since the original game’s release back in 2001, and for a long time, the games were exclusive to Microsoft’s gaming hardware. 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians was no exception, launching solely on Xbox One. However, Microsoft’s strategy has shifted over the past several years.

Microsoft’s strategy over the past several years has been to expand the Xbox ecosystem to other platforms — particularly PC, but also, to some extent, other consoles. Halo Infinite, released in late 2021, came to both Xbox and PC and other games from the series have been launched on Steam and Windows Store.

Still, a PC port of Halo 5 would be big news for fans of the series, particularly given that earlier rumors of a potential port seemed to have fizzled out.

There’s no guarantee that the appearance of Halo 5: Guardians on a product page for the Legion Go S means that the game is coming to PC. But it’s a good sign if you hope to see it happen.

Microsoft has been working to revitalize the Halo brand after several rocky years for the franchise, which seems to be paying off. Halo Infinite has been a critical and commercial success, and the Halo TV series that debuted in late 2021 was well-received.
