Microsoft rolled out the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27768 to the Canary Channel with a few improvements and a lot of bug fixes for the OS. The most important that got our attention was the oversaturated issue in games while using the Auto HDR feature we reported recently
Fixed an underlying issue which could result in some games appearing oversaturated when using Auto HDR. We reported about this problem that got millions of gamers blocked from installing the 24H2 update. That is very important because we should probably soon expect a fix for Windows 24H2 as well, most likely in the next Patch Tuesday update.
Another notable fix is one that caused some insiders in the Canary channel to get a BSoD with the error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
In the Microsoft’s blog announcement, we also have news about some improvements on the OS. They’ve added a New Folder option in the context menu when you right click in locations from the navigation pane.
You will also be able to change the time zones from Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time even if you don’t have administrative privileges. However, we would not listed this as a new feature. Not being able to change the time zone was a recent bug in Windows 11 24H2.
Here are other bugs that Preview Build 27768 will fix for Insiders:
[File Explorer]
- Fixed an issue where the date/time properties of files were unexpectedly updated in some cases after copying them.
- Fixed an issue where File Explorer may sometimes lose focus on the search box while typing.
- Fixed an issue where when you did a search it may unexpectedly trigger the search happening repeatedly.
- Fixed an issue where the Details Pane icons weren’t responding correctly to theme changes, making it hard to see if you switched from dark to light or vice versa.
- Fixed a black flash in File Explorer that appeared when duplicating a tab.
[Input]
- Fixed an issue which could lead to the mouse cursor unexpectedly stuttering when you moved it around sometimes.
As with any new update, there are also some known bugs listed with it. For example, if you’re joining the Canary channel using a Copilot+ PC from the Dev channel, Release Preview channel or retail, you will lose the Hello pin and biometrics. You will get the error 0xd0000225 and the message Something went wrong. However, you can fix this problem clicking on Set up my pin and create a new one.
Another important known bug is that after installing the Insider Preview Build 27768, you will get errors every time you run the SFC scan even if they are not there. Also if you’re opening File Explorer and minimize it, when you restore it, the app might not render properly.
While such updates for insiders are mostly there to identify and fix bugs, we also hope that Microsoft will soon fix the Auto HDR bug on general release channel as well, because the gamers’ patience may be running thin.
