Windows 11 KB5074109 Causes Random Black Screens for NVIDIA Users
Windows update KB5074109 introduced improvements for Windows 11, including Secure Boot certificate updates, but some users now report black screen problems on systems running NVIDIA graphics cards.
According to Reddit, affected users describe a system freeze followed by a black screen. In most cases, the computer does not crash or reboot. Instead, the screen goes blank for roughly a minute before recovering on its own. Users say the behavior feels like a classic graphics driver issue rather than a full system failure.
Users Report Freezing, Random Black Screens, and Visual Glitches
Other users report irregular hanging, short black screen flashes lasting one or two seconds, and cases where the desktop background turns completely black. The background image issue appears cosmetic and can usually be fixed by reapplying the wallpaper from the Personalization settings. However, the random black screen flashes remain unresolved and continue to disrupt normal usage.
At the moment, no confirmed fix exists. Users expect NVIDIA to release a new driver soon that could address the problem, potentially within the next week. Reports so far suggest the issue affects NVIDIA GPUs only, as users with other graphics hardware have not reported similar behavior.
Not Widespread, but Frustrating for Affected Users
While the problem does not appear widespread, it causes noticeable disruption for those experiencing it. The situation adds to growing concerns around KB5074109, especially since many users have already reported that the same update breaks Azure Virtual Desktop connections.
For now, users wait for an official response or update from NVIDIA or Microsoft to resolve the black screen behavior.
