Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect Brings Seamless 5G to Surface Laptops

Ericsson has announced a new enterprise-grade 5G solution developed in partnership with Microsoft. The platform, called Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect, has been validated for enterprise use with Microsoft’s 5G-enabled Surface PCs.

The announcement signals a deeper push toward always-connected Windows devices designed for hybrid and remote work environments.

Seamless 5G Connectivity for Surface Devices

Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect automatically links devices to the best available 5G network in the background. The process runs invisibly, removing the need for manual setup or troubleshooting by end users.

The system supports both private and public cloud networks. It also avoids dependence on a single carrier or specific SIM configuration, making it interoperable across Ericsson’s broader partner ecosystem.

The feature is currently in private preview and has been validated specifically for 5G-enabled Surface PCs, with plans to expand support to additional Windows PCs in the future.

Integrated With Windows 11 and Intune

Windows 11 already includes support for organization-managed cellular connectivity through Microsoft Intune. When combined with Ericsson Enterprise 5G Connect, IT administrators gain centralized control over eSIM provisioning and connectivity policies.

This integration allows businesses to automate the deployment and management of secure, always-connected laptops. Employees using 5G-capable Surface devices can remain connected on the go without needing to manually switch networks or adjust configurations.

Ericsson and Microsoft are positioning the solution as part of a broader shift toward “AI-powered 5G laptops,” aiming to streamline device operations while improving enterprise IT efficiency and remote productivity.

In related networking developments, Qualcomm has previewed upcoming Wi-Fi 8 technology, while Broadcom announced its first enterprise-focused Wi-Fi 8 platform.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has reportedly blocked downloads of certain Windows 11 Insider ISO builds.
