The patent outlines a system where gameplay continues in an altered state when players need a short break. Instead of freezing the action entirely, the game slows down or becomes more forgiving.

Sony explains that Soft Pause helps players decide whether to fully pause or quickly return to normal gameplay. This approach reduces friction during brief distractions, such as checking a notification or answering the door.
