Microsoft Explains Why Some Windows 11 Updates Now Install Slower

Microsoft says slower Windows Update installations are not always a sign that something went wrong. In some cases, Windows 11 intentionally spends more time during the spinning-circle update screen to recover from installation problems automatically, as Windows Latest writes.

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 now detects update installation issues in real time. When the system encounters a problem, it can automatically retry failed operations, repair corrupted update states, and continue installation without forcing users into vague error screens.

That means some updates may now appear slower because Windows is actively attempting recovery instead of failing immediately.

Microsoft says the goal is to improve update success rates and reduce frustrating rollback scenarios that have affected Windows Update for years.

The company noted that Windows may take “additional steps in the background” during installation to help updates complete successfully. Longer installation times can therefore become part of the normal recovery process.
