DLSS 5 Spotted in NBA 2K27 as Modders Get It Running in Control

DLSS 5 has appeared inside the early-access files of NBA 2K27, giving users an early look at NVIDIA’s upcoming Neural Rendering technology.

NVIDIA recently confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will become the first game to use RTX Mega Geometry, but the company may also be getting closer to releasing its next major DLSS upgrade.

DLSS 5 library found in NBA 2K27

An experimental NVIDIA DLSS 5 library has appeared in NBA 2K27’s early-access files.

The file, nvngx_dlssnr.dll, measures roughly 158 MB and contains the runtime associated with DLSS 5’s Neural Rendering technology.

Its presence in a shipping game’s files suggests NVIDIA may be moving closer to an official DLSS 5 launch.

Modders get DLSS 5 running in Control

Members of the RenoDX modding community managed to load the Neural Rendering library into Control, despite the game having no official DLSS 5 support.

The experimental implementation currently appears to affect character models rather than the entire scene.

Modders also found seven Neural Rendering styles that change how characters appear, offering an early look at how NVIDIA’s technology could alter game visuals.

Performance remains a major problem

The unofficial implementation remains highly experimental and does not reflect NVIDIA’s finished DLSS 5 integration.

HDR does not work correctly, so RenoDX conducted its testing in SDR.

Performance also drops heavily. Enabling Neural Rendering caused close to a 50% performance loss on an RTX 5070 Ti while running the game at 4K.

The incomplete integration could account for much of that performance hit, meaning official DLSS 5 support may behave very differently.

DLSS 5 could launch this fall

NVIDIA is expected to launch DLSS 5 for GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards this fall.

The discovery of a working Neural Rendering DLL inside NBA 2K27 suggests the technology may already be moving into wider testing ahead of its official rollout.

In other NVIDIA news, the company recently disclosed $96.2 billion in revenue as AI demand continued to drive its business.
