Microsoft Is Pulling the Admin App From Teams and Outlook

Microsoft Admin app retirement will begin this month, with Microsoft planning to completely remove the app from Teams, Outlook, and Microsoft365.com in October 2026.

Microsoft recently improved the call experience in the browser version of Teams and announced new measures to prevent external bots from joining Teams meetings. Now, the company is making another change that affects IT administrators.

Microsoft is retiring the Admin app

Microsoft confirmed the retirement in Message Center advisory MC1462922.

The Admin app lets IT administrators handle common, lightweight administrative tasks without moving between dedicated management portals. Microsoft primarily designed it for very small businesses that need access to basic admin controls.

Changes start this month

Starting this month, Microsoft will stop pre-pinning and pre-installing the Admin app in Teams for new customers.

Existing customers can continue opening the app manually while it remains installed. Microsoft isn’t removing access for those organizations immediately.

Complete retirement arrives in October

Microsoft plans to completely retire the Admin app in October 2026.

Once the retirement takes effect, administrators will no longer be able to access the app through Teams, Outlook, or Microsoft365.com.

Microsoft hasn’t announced an option to keep using the Admin app after the retirement date.

Microsoft recommends its dedicated admin centers

Microsoft recommends that IT administrators move to the Teams admin center or Microsoft 365 admin center for administrative tasks.

Admins can also use the Microsoft 365 Admin Agent for help with basic management tasks.

The change pushes administrators toward Microsoft’s dedicated management tools rather than maintaining a separate lightweight Admin app across several Microsoft 365 services.

In other Microsoft 365 news, Microsoft recently delayed the Outlook usage report retirement until November.
