Latest Windows 11 Beta Build Adds Cross-Device Resume & File Explorer Improvements

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Beta Preview Build 26220.9472 with several small but useful improvements. The update focuses on making cross-device workflows smoother while also improving Windows Spotlight, Settings, and File Explorer.

Windows 11 makes it easier to resume webpages from your phone

One of the biggest highlights of this build is an improvement to the cross-device resume experience. When users resume a webpage from their phone and the same browser isn’t installed on their PC, Windows will now offer two options through the Resume hovercard.

Users can either open the webpage directly in their PC’s default browser or install the browser used on their phone for a more native experience. This means users no longer have to install another browser just to continue browsing where they left off.

Microsoft has also made underlying changes aimed at improving the reliability of Windows Spotlight on the lock screen.

File Explorer and Settings get minor improvements

File Explorer Home now remembers whether sections were expanded or collapsed, allowing users to return to the same layout instead of having to adjust it again. The Settings app also receives a few fixes and visual changes. Microsoft has slightly refined the Temporary files page under Settings > System > Storage, while fixing problems that could prevent mouse cursor customization from working correctly.

Another issue affecting desktop backgrounds has also been addressed. Background customization should now persist properly after restarting the PC.
