New Windows 11 Experimental 26H1 Build Breaks Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) With 0xc000007b Error

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Experimental (26H1) Preview Build 28120.3002, but the update comes with a known issue for PC gamers. Microsoft says Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) may fail to launch on some systems, preventing affected games from starting and displaying the error message, “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).” Microsoft is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.

Interestingly, the rest of the Experimental 26H1 Build 28120.3002 is identical to the Beta (26H1) Preview Build 28020.2991 released today itself. Both builds add gamepad navigation to the Bluetooth quick settings page, allowing users to manage Bluetooth settings with a controller.

Both builds also introduce the ability to pin favorite apps in the Windows Share window. This makes frequently used sharing apps easier to access, but there is otherwise little new functionality in the Experimental build beyond these changes.

Microsoft has not yet provided a permanent fix for the EAC 0xc000007b error, so users affected by the problem will need to wait for a future Insider build for a fix. Speaking of builds, it’s worth noting that Microsoft has also dropped Windows 11 Experimental Build 26340.9482, Beta Preview Build 26220.947, and 26H1 Release Preview Build 28000.3079 today.
