Government Word Users Are Next in Microsoft’s Copilot Expansion

Microsoft is bringing Edit with Copilot in Word to government customers, expanding access to its AI-powered editing tools across more Microsoft 365 environments.

The move follows news that Microsoft is bringing Grok to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Copilot editing is coming to government Word users

Edit with Copilot will become available to Office 365 GCC, GCC High, and DoD customers.

The feature lets users work with Copilot directly inside Word to create, refine, and transform documents. Microsoft lists the feature under its AI at Work roadmap entry 570277.

What Edit with Copilot can do

Copilot acts as a co-creator inside a Word document. Government users will be able to rewrite existing text, improve documents, and create initial drafts without leaving Word.

Microsoft says the feature should help users complete document-related work more efficiently.

Rollout starts in October

Microsoft plans to begin rolling out Edit with Copilot to government customers in October 2026.

The roadmap lists the feature for general availability, but currently mentions only Word for the web. Microsoft has not listed the desktop or mobile Word apps as supported platforms yet.

Elsewhere, SharePoint is getting Copilot context editing, while Microsoft also plans to start rolling out Copilot domain exclusion again.
