Edge 153 Can Completely Freeze on Web Apps, Microsoft Admits
Microsoft has acknowledged a new issue in Microsoft Edge 153 that can cause some web applications to become unresponsive during use.
According to Microsoft’s known issues page, the affected Edge window can freeze completely when the problem occurs, preventing users from interacting with it using either the mouse or keyboard.
Microsoft hasn’t identified which web apps are affected
Microsoft hasn’t explained which web applications trigger the freezing issue or what causes it.
It’s also unclear whether the problem affects websites using specific technologies or only certain Edge configurations. Microsoft says it is currently investigating the issue, but the company hasn’t provided an estimated date for a permanent fix.
Rolling back to Edge 152 is the current workaround
For now, Microsoft recommends rolling back from Edge 153 to Edge 152 if users encounter the problem.
This means affected users may need to remain on the previous browser version until Microsoft identifies the cause and releases a fix.
Salesforce reports similar freezes in Chromium 153 browsers
Salesforce has separately reported intermittent UI freezing in Chrome and Edge 153.
According to Salesforce, affected pages can become unresponsive during different interactions, including when users switch between tabs. Salesforce attributes its issue to the Chromium 153 browser update.
Its temporary recommendations include using another supported browser or reverting to version 152.
Microsoft hasn’t confirmed that the Salesforce issue and the broader Edge 153 freezing problem share the same underlying cause.
In other Edge news, Edge extension reviews are getting faster, while Microsoft is also dropping Edge Manifest V2 support for enterprises.
