Microsoft Is Cutting Off Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Updates Next Month

Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro will reach the end of support on October 13, 2026, leaving users with less than a month to move to a newer Windows 11 release.

After that date, PCs running these editions will stop receiving monthly security updates and optional non-security preview updates, according to Microsoft.

The deadline only affects the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 24H2. Enterprise and Education customers can continue using version 24H2 with support until October 2027.

Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11 25H2

Microsoft recommends that Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro users upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 before support ends.

Eligible users can open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Once Microsoft determines that a device is ready, Windows Update will offer Windows 11 version 25H2 for download and installation.

Moving to 25H2 will ensure that the PC continues receiving security fixes and other monthly updates after Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro leave support.

Unmanaged Windows 11 PCs will upgrade automatically

Microsoft also plans to automatically upgrade eligible Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro devices that aren’t managed by an IT department.

Users will still have some control over the process. They can choose when the PC restarts to finish the installation and can temporarily pause Windows updates through Settings.

Organizations that manage their own Windows devices will retain control over feature update deployment and can decide when to move systems away from Windows 11 24H2.

Enterprise and Education users get another year

Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions aren’t affected by the October 13 deadline.

Microsoft will continue supporting those editions until October 2027, giving businesses, schools, and other managed environments another year to plan their upgrades.

The approaching Windows 11 deadline comes as Microsoft prepares to retire support for several other products and services.

In other news, Microsoft gives Exchange Online admins another warning before EWS retirement begins, while Microsoft warns Windows Server 2022 mainstream support is also approaching its end.

As for other software, Microsoft is cutting off Office 2021 support in less than a month.
