Meta Quest 3 Can Now Send Camera and Mic Feeds to Windows 11

Microsoft has updated Mixed Reality Link with support for microphone and camera streaming from Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets to Windows 11.

The update expands Mixed Reality Link beyond virtual displays and input, allowing supported Windows apps to access the headset’s built-in microphone and cameras. Quest users can already use Mixed Reality Link to create a private Windows workspace with multiple virtual monitors in passthrough or immersive VR environments.

Quest microphones now work with Windows apps

Windows now exposes the Quest headset’s built-in microphone as Mixed Reality Link Microphone.

Users can select it as an audio input in voice calling apps and other Windows applications, removing the need to use a separate microphone connected to the PC.

Quest cameras can stream directly to Windows

Mixed Reality Link can also send video from the Quest headset’s cameras to Windows through Mixed Reality Link Passthrough.

This allows compatible Windows applications to receive the user’s headset perspective, making it possible to share what the Quest user sees without relying on a separate camera.

Avatar Camera turns Meta avatars into webcam sources

Microsoft has also added Mixed Reality Link Avatar Camera.

The feature lets users select their Meta avatar as a camera source instead of using a traditional webcam. Windows applications that support webcam input, including video calling apps, can use the avatar feed.

The update requires the latest Mixed Reality Link version

Microphone and camera streaming require Mixed Reality Link version 26.9105.9070.0 or later.

Mixed Reality Link currently supports Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets connected to PCs running Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer.
