Steam is changing how discounts and sale events work in early 2027, replacing much of its current calendar-based promotion system with more personalized game discovery.

Valve says the changes should help users find a wider variety of discounted games and sales based on their individual interests.

Steam discounts are becoming more personalized

According to Valve, Steam has been testing personalized recommendations that match discounted games with users who are more likely to be interested in them.

During testing, Steam replaced some curated store sections with dynamic recommendations tailored to each user. Valve says these experiments allowed Steam to show buyers 10 times more games in a single day.

The company also recorded increases in store page visits, wishlists, and games added to carts during the experiments.

Valve now plans to move further away from manually scheduling promotions and toward systems that dynamically surface relevant games and discounts.

Weekend Deals and Daily Deals are going away

One of the biggest changes involves Steam’s Discounts & Events section.

Valve plans to completely discontinue its curated calendar for the section sometime in early 2027. The company has already stopped scheduling new curated placements.

That means traditional Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals will no longer receive their current manually scheduled placements.

Instead, Steam will increasingly rely on personalized discovery to decide which discounted games and sale events users see.

The change could significantly expand the number of games that receive visibility, rather than concentrating store exposure around a smaller number of manually selected promotions.

Developers are getting new discount tools

Valve also plans to introduce new and updated tools that developers can use to manage discounts and sale events.

The changes should give publishers more flexibility when organizing promotions as Steam transitions away from its existing calendar-based system.

Valve has not announced an exact date for when the redesigned discount system will become available to players, saying only that the broader changes will arrive in early 2027.

Steam has also been making several other platform changes recently. The Steam Deck library now includes more than 30,000 supported titles, while Steam recently introduced credit card verification for mature games in Australia.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft has also started making changes for Steam players by allowing some games to run without Ubisoft Connect.
