Steam Deck’s game library has grown to more than 30,000 supported titles, making performance monitoring increasingly important as the catalog expands.

Valve has now added framerate distribution data to Steamworks, giving developers a clearer look at how Steam Deck games perform during real-world gameplay.

Developers can see where Steam Deck performance drops

The new Steamworks data shows what percentage of sampled gameplay falls within different FPS ranges.

This can reveal when a significant portion of players drop below 30 FPS, giving developers more useful information than an average framerate alone.

Valve says developers can compare the FPS distribution with average framerate data and customer feedback to identify performance or stability problems.

That information could help studios optimize poorly performing sections of a game or adjust the default graphics settings offered to Steam Deck users.

Data comes from Steam Deck players

Valve collects the performance information from Steam Deck users who opted in to sharing anonymized framerate data.

According to the company, a majority of Steam Deck players have enabled reporting, giving developers performance data across many games and different usage scenarios.

This gives studios a broader picture of how their games actually perform outside internal testing.

Valve is starting with Steam Deck Verified games

Valve initially limits the feature to Steam Deck Verified games through the Hardware Compatibility Review tools in Steamworks.

Steam Deck gives Valve a consistent hardware baseline, which makes comparisons easier while the company evaluates how useful the new performance data proves for developers.

However, the results can still vary because of user-set framerate limits, loading screens, or Steam Deck systems connected to higher-refresh-rate displays while docked.

In other Steam news, the Steam Autumn Sale 2026 is live, while Valve is also replacing curated Steam deals with more dynamic discounts.
