Windows 11 KB5127648 & KB5127694 Reportedly Triggers Xbox Live Sign-In Error 0x87DD0005
Windows 11 users are running into another frustrating gaming issue, and reinstalling games isn’t helping. Microsoft Solitaire, Mahjong, and other Xbox games are reportedly refusing to sign in with error 0x87DD0005. While some users have pointed out that the issue has been triggered by October 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. Meanwhile some have shared a potential workaround.
Xbox Live sign-in fails across Microsoft games after Windows 11 October 2026 security and .NET framework update
In a new user report on Microsoft Learn forum, spotted by Neowin, users described issues signing into Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games. Some also reported failures with Microsoft Mahjong and Gears of War 4. One Windows 11 user said the problem started after installing the October 2026 .NET Framework security update KB5127694 and security update KB5127648. Others reported similar failures after updating their PCs.
Interestingly, some users can still sign into their Xbox accounts through a browser or the Xbox app. However, individual games reject their sign-in attempts. This leaves some players unable to access saved progress, settings, and subscription benefits. Several users have already tried resetting apps, reinstalling games, clearing credentials, and restarting their PCs. These attempts reportedly failed to resolve the issue.
Microsoft has not confirmed that KB5127648 caused the problem. The reports also do not establish a widespread Xbox Live outage, so the exact cause remains unclear.
A possible workaround has been reported
One affected user reported that restarting the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service restored sign-in. The suggested fix involves opening Windows Services, locating Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant, and changing its startup type to Automatic. After applying the change, restart the service and try opening the Xbox app and affected game again. This workaround is based on a user report, not an officially confirmed Microsoft fix, by the way.
As a quick reminder, whenever you encounter issues with Xbox services and games, check the official Xbox status page for authentication or service outage. If services appear normal, the reported workaround may be worth trying before reinstalling games or resetting Windows. Microsoft has yet to confirm a permanent fix for this specific wave of reports.
