Microsoft Edge is getting new PDF editing features that will let users merge documents, remove pages, and reorganize PDFs without installing third-party software.

According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft plans to introduce the new PDF management capabilities in January 2027.

Edge will support five new PDF editing features

The upcoming update will expand Edge’s built-in PDF capabilities, allowing users to manage documents directly in the browser.

Users will be able to extract selected pages into a separate PDF, delete unwanted pages, rotate individual pages, and rearrange their order within a document. Edge will also allow users to merge multiple PDF files into a single document.

Edge will save the changes in a new PDF file, preserving the original documents.

These additions could make Edge a more practical alternative to dedicated PDF editors, particularly for users who only need basic document management tools.

PDF processing will happen locally

Microsoft also confirmed that Edge will process PDF documents locally on the user’s device rather than uploading them to cloud servers.

This approach could benefit users who work with confidential business documents or sensitive information.

For enterprise environments, IT administrators will be able to control access to the new tools through the PdfOrganizeAndMergeEnabled policy.

Microsoft expects to roll out the features in January 2027, although the company has not yet shown the final interface or explained exactly how users will access the new tools.

The announcement comes as Microsoft continues expanding Edge’s capabilities for business users, even as the browser faces occasional issues. Recently, Microsoft confirmed that the latest Edge version fails to launch on some enterprise PCs.

The company is also introducing additional enterprise features, including watermark protection in Microsoft Edge for Business.
