AMD FSR 4.1 beta drivers have reportedly started rolling out to Xbox Ally handhelds, bringing improved AI-powered upscaling technology to Microsoft’s portable gaming devices.

Microsoft and AMD recently confirmed plans to bring FSR 4.1 to current Xbox hardware, and the first beta drivers now appear to be available for the Xbox Ally, Xbox Ally X, and Xbox Ally X20.

Reddit user Sjknight413 reportedly discovered the drivers, suggesting that Microsoft and AMD have begun testing the technology on Xbox handhelds ahead of its expected arrival on Xbox Series X|S.

AMD FSR 4.1 promises better image quality and performance

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4.1 uses AI-powered upscaling to improve image quality while reducing the workload on the GPU.

Instead of rendering every frame at full resolution, the technology renders games at a lower internal resolution and uses machine learning to upscale the image. This approach can help games achieve higher frame rates while maintaining sharper visuals.

For Xbox Ally users, FSR 4.1 could deliver smoother gameplay and improved image quality, particularly in demanding titles where GPU performance limits frame rates.

However, the drivers remain in beta, and independent testing has yet to confirm how much performance or image quality improves. Results will also depend on individual games, hardware capabilities, and developer implementation.

Xbox Series X|S could receive FSR 4.1 in the coming weeks

The reported handheld rollout could signal that AMD and Microsoft are preparing to expand FSR 4.1 support to Xbox Series X and Series S.

The technology is expected to reach both consoles in the coming weeks, although neither company has confirmed an exact release date.

For now, the beta drivers offer an early look at AMD’s latest upscaling technology on Xbox hardware, with broader availability and real-world performance improvements still awaiting confirmation.

In other news, Xbox announced 50 new games for October 26–30.
