Copilot Sidebar Isn't Working for Some Microsoft Edge Users Amid Migration to New Experience
Microsoft Edge users are reportedly running into an annoying issue related to Copilot, and restarting the browser might not immediately solve it. The AI assistant is temporarily unavailable in the sidebar for some users, with Microsoft telling them to wait for a migration to finish. The issue has sparked fresh complaints from Reddit users.
Copilot sidebar tells users to wait days
According to a report by Windows Central, affected users see a message saying their Copilot is migrating to a new experience. The notice reportedly warns that the process may take several days and could require restarting Edge. It also directs users to Copilot’s website while the migration continues. Microsoft says chat history and settings should become available once the transition finishes.
However, the message doesn’t explain exactly what’s changing or when access will return for each affected user. The reports suggest the issue is linked to Microsoft’s ongoing Copilot experience transition, rather than a confirmed widespread service outage.
A Reddit post from yesterday describes the same migration notice. Another recent Reddit post thread reveals user frustration with the changed sidebar experience, with many asking whether they can return to the older version.
If Copilot isn’t working in Edge’s sidebar, you can try Copilot directly through its website while waiting for migration to complete. Restarting Edge may help, but the migration notice indicates that some users will need to wait and there’s nothing much they can do about it. Speaking of Edge, the Browser Choice Alliance (BAC) commisioned a report which accused Microsoft of using ten dark patterns to push Edge on Windows 11.
