Trump Calls Out News Outlet for Not Using "Super Intelligence," Threatens to Ban the Term "Artificial Intelligence"
The US President, Donald Trump, is taking his fight over artificial intelligence terminology to another level. After previously pushing to rename AI as “Super Intelligence,” the US president now wants to ban the term entirely, criticizing the Wall Street Journal for continuing to use it.
Trump wants “AI” banned from relevant documents
In a Truth Social post from yesterday, Trump called “artificial intelligence” a “very bad and inaccurate name.” He questioned why the Wall Street Journal was not using his preferred term, “SI,” which stands for Super Intelligence.
Trump also threatened to officially ban “AI” and “Artificial Intelligence” from relevant documents and other materials. He claimed that virtually everyone else was already using, or would soon use, his preferred terminology. Here’s the exact wordings from Trump’s Truth Social post:
When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, “AI/Artificial Intelligence,” in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
For those unaware, Trump pushed for the term “Super Intelligence” first during his September 22 speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The White House later formalized the change for the executive branch through an executive order announced on September 29. It directs federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications and policy documents.
Trump’s AI rebrand faces a bigger terminology problem
Trump argues that “artificial” makes the technology sound fake, despite its growing capabilities. However, the term artificial intelligence has been used in computing and research for decades.
There is another side to the term “Super Intelligence.” Researchers already use “superintelligence” to describe hypothetical systems that substantially outperform humans across cognitive tasks. Applying that term to today’s entire AI industry could create confusion.
Let me ask you, what do you prefer? Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Super Intelligence (SI)? Let us know in the comments below.
