Just last month, Meta rolled out guest calling, a feature that only requires a non-account user just a link to join free, end-to-end encrypted calls. Speaking of users with no account, WhatsApp has finally removed one of the biggest limitations of its Events feature.

WhatsApp Events gets a major upgrade, now lets you invite people without an account

The company announced the feature today via a blog post in which it mentioned that users can now invite friends who don’t have a WhatsApp account. They won’t need to download the app or create an account to view an invitation and RSVP. The process is fairly straightforward.

You can create an event, add a cover photo, and share its invitation link. You can send that link through text messages, email, or other platforms. Recipients can then open it, check the event details, and respond without joining WhatsApp.

Interestingly, this also makes event planning easier across different social circles. Not everyone uses WhatsApp, and organizers previously had fewer options for including those people. The update could reduce the need to switch between separate event-planning services.

A dedicated Events Home brings everything together

WhatsApp is also introducing a dedicated Events Home inside the app’s Settings. It gives users one place to create customized invitations and manage responses. You can also find events you have created or been invited to, including past and upcoming gatherings. There are a few other useful additions worth mentioning. Organizers can set custom reminders and allow guests to bring a plus-one. This should make coordinating attendance less complicated, especially for larger meetups.

Privacy is another important part of the update. WhatsApp says your phone number won’t appear to guest you don’t know. Guests without accounts will only see the event address after submitting their RSVP. That said, the update does not change WhatsApp’s existing encryption protections. The company confirms that personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted.

The updated Events experience is rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks. It may take some time before the new options appear on every account.
