Microsoft is constantly updating its Surface family of devices. The tech giant recently surprised Surface users with the announcement of Core i5 processor models for 15-inch Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6.
The upcoming Core i5 processor-based Surface devices will have a memory of 16GB.
Previously, Surface users were forced to buy any of these models with a Core i7 processor to get a 16GB memory. Notably, Surface Pro 6 Core i5 offers only 8GB of RAM.
However, the 15-inch variant of Surface Book 2 does not offer 8GB memory.
However, if you are one of those who are looking to purchase a new Surface i5 device with more memory, you should go for a 15-inch Surface Book 2 or Surface Pro 6.
Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6 pricing details
Some reports suggest that Microsoft plans to offer both variants at the following prices.
Model | Processor | RAM | SSD Storage | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Surface Pro 6 | Core i5-8350U | 16GB | 256GB | $1,399 |
Surface Book 2 (15-inch ) | Core i5-8350U | 16GB | 256GB | $1,999 |
If you compare the price of 16GB Surface Pro 6 with 512GB SSD and Core i7, you can save around 27% on the new model.
Likewise, the 15-inch Surface Book 2 with a Core i7 processor and 16GB RAM/256GB SSD is available at $2,499 (20% discounted price).
New Surface Book 2/Surface Pro 6 release date
However, no one can confirm when the new models will be available. Both these models were initially in the product listing of a Canadian website Best Buy.
But they were quickly removed from the site. Furthermore, there are some reports that a US retailer opened pre-orders for Surface Book 2 with Core i5 processor and 16GB RAM. These reports prove that the company is currently working on both models.Â
Well, Microsoft has not announced any release date yet. However, the new Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6 devices are expected to hit the stores in June. Â
It seems that the users from the UK and other regions may have to wait for a few more months to get their hands on the devices.
