Subnautica is a great game but some users reported issues with the game, and the most common issue with the game is crashing.

In today’s guide we’re going to show you how to fix Subnautica crashes on your PC, so let’s get started.

Why does Subnautica keeps crashing?

One of the most common reasons for Subnautica crashing is a large save folder which can lead to crashes or freezing issues. Other reasons include outdated graphics card or PC that does not meet game requirements.

How can I fix Subnautica crashes and freezes?

1. Update your graphics card drivers

updated outdated drivers

If Subnautica crashes on startup, you should update your graphics card drivers. You can do that manually from the manufacturer’s website, but the process is faster and simpler if you use a specialized tool for that.

Outbyte Driver Updater will scan your system and let you know which drivers are out of date. The software will update your graphics card as well as other outdated drivers automatically with almost no input required.

Once you get a list of outdated drivers, you just need to select the ones that you want to update and click the button to download and install them automatically.

The software is fast and simple to use, and with a database that has more than 18 million driver files, you should be able to update your drivers in a matter of moments.

Other great features:

  • Fast scanning
  • Over 18 million driver files in the database
  • Download manager for drivers
  • Driver backup

2. Delete cache files

  1. Navigate to the game folder. By default it should be: SteamLibrarySteamAppscommonSubnautica
  2. Locate the SNAppData directory and copy it to a safe location.
  3. Navigate to your save folder. The location should be the following: SNAppDataSavedGamesslot0000
  4. Now delete or rename the following folders: CellsCache and CompiledOctreesCache folders. They should be below the slot0000 folder.

This is a simple workaround, and it should help you if Subnautica keeps crashing. Few users reported that they had to reinstall their game as well, so you might try that if deleting the files doesn’t work.

Fixing Subnautica crashes and freezes is pretty simple, and in most cases, you just need to update your graphics card drivers or clear the cache files.
