A Petition By Fans Demanding Destiny 3 Now Has Over 177k Signatures
Last week, Bungie announced an update that made many Destiny fans said, and understandably so. Believe it or not, Destiny 2 is approaching its final major update, with some reports also pointing out towards layoffs. That also means Destiny 3 suddenly looks more uncertain than ever, and fans clearly are not taking that quietly and making their voice heard.
Destiny fans are rallying hard after Bungie’s recent direction
A petition asking Sony to greenlight Destiny 3 has now exploded past 177,000 signatures at the time of writing. Weirdly enough, that number has smashed the estimated peak player count for Marathon itself.
For many longtime Destiny fans, the situation feels like Bungie is walking away from one of gaming’s biggest live-service franchises while betting heavily on a new extraction shooter that still is struggling to connect with players.
Over on social media, especially Reddit, fans are now trying to organize a massive return-to-play event around June 9, which is when Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph launches. The goal appears to be flooding the servers, spike engagement numbers, and show Sony there is still massive demand for the franchise. However, the bigger issue still comes down to money.
Although The Final Shape expansion performed well critically and commercially, Bungie still ended up facing layoffs afterward. With the studio reportedly losing value internally, many fans fear Sony may not want to spend billions more on a full Destiny 3 production anytime soon. All that said, the community clearly is not ready to let the franchise fade away quietly.
