Anthropic's Claude AI, Code, Cowork & API Are Down in the Latest Outage

Claude and related services are down in latest outage. Anthropic is investigating elevated error rates affecting Claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Cowork, with some Claude API requests also returning errors.

The latest update on Anthropic’s status page, posted at 14:30 UTC on September 29, says the company is investigating degraded performance across claude.ai, platform.claude.com, the Claude API, Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

The incident first appeared at 14:21 UTC, when Anthropic said users were seeing failed requests, errors while loading or sending conversations, and problems signing in. The company advised that retrying could succeed.

The status page currently lists claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Cowork as experiencing a partial outage, while the Claude Console and Claude API are showing degraded performance.

That means this is not limited to the main Claude website. Developers using the API and people working with Claude Code or Cowork can also run into problems.

Anthropic has not yet provided a specific cause for the incident or an estimated time for a full recovery. The company says it is investigating and will provide another update.

For users currently unable to access Claude, there is not much of a workaround beyond retrying after a short wait. Anthropic specifically notes that retrying requests may succeed while the incident is ongoing.
