Apple is the last one to join the AI race. Thus, it might take a while for Siri to become fully AI. However, Apple is giving up on its electric vehicle (EV) projects to speed up the process.

Furthermore, employees can only use large language models (LLMs) at work if they belong to Apple. This is a strict method to enhance the security.

Will Apple produce an EV?

Apple will not produce an EV. According to Bloomberg, Apple will transfer some of the 2,000 employees from the electric vehicle project to the AI teams. Unfortunately, there will be some layoffs, but for now, it is uncertain how many. However, it could be a good thing. After all, Apple might focus its resources on bringing AI to Vision Pro and other devices.

Unfortunately, after the announcement, Apple lost some stocks and investors. After all, we have known about the Apple electric vehicle project since 2014. So, it is unfortunate to see it replaced. Yet, we are aware that many companies are building electric vehicles.

Moreover, according to Mashable, Apple prioritized self-driving and voice-based navigation features. However, it is very tricky and challenging to program the self-driving technology. Thus, they could use or sell that tech to enhance some of the future EVs. Furthermore, the CarPlay audio software by Apple is already on some of the newer vehicles.

In a nutshell, this decision might be Apple’s way of dodging a bullet when it comes to electric vehicles. After all, the project took over a decade and a lot of funding. In addition, AI is the latest feature of most devices. So, Apple could invest more into their gen AI project or a newer version of Vision Pro with more AI features.

What are your thoughts? Is Apple’s decision to give up electric vehicles a good one? Let us know in the comments.
