ARC Raiders, as you may know, is designed as a third-person extraction shooter. However, it appears that players can try first-person mode, which reportedly changes everything. For those unaware, the Embark Studios title, which quickly became a hit in the respective genre.

As a raider, you drop into hostile maps solo or in small squads, scavenge for gear, and escape alive. Over on Steam and Metacritic, the game carries a “Very Positive” rating and a 7.8 score (out of 10). The game has been praised by many for its tense gameplay loop and steady progression.

Despite all the success, some players have long wondered how ARC Raiders would feel without the third-person camera. That curiosity turned into reality after a Reddit user, Short_Satisfaction_9, reportedly shared footage of the game running in first-person mode. Here’s a closer look at it:

“I just want to clarify I don’t think ARC Raiders needs first person at all,” the player wrote. “I love this game with all my heart and actually really enjoy the third-person aspect of it, but man, getting to experience this game in first person was surreal. The ARC felt so terrifying.”

According to the post, the ARC Raiders first-person mode was achieved using existing console commands, which players already use to tweak fog or brightness. Apparently, pushing those commands further, the camera could be forced into a first-person view.

The commands shared were: “Camera FirstPerson | fov 45 | r.SetNearClipPlane 28.”
The result isn’t perfect and can look rough in places, but the response from the community has been intriguing. Many players say the first-person view makes the atmosphere feel closer, heavier, and more intense.

As of now, there’s no word by Embark Studios to make first-person official. However, given that fans are in frenzy over the first-person mode, it wouldn’t be long before the studio starts planning it.
