Avowed Keeps Crashing: How to Permanently Stop it

If you recently got Avowed, you might notice that the game keeps crashing. This problem will prevent you from playing the game, but there’s a way to fix it, and in this guide, we’re going to show you how to fix it.

What can I do if Avowed keeps crashing?

Disable Post Processing Quality

  1. Start the game and go to graphics settings.
  2. Locate Post Processing Quality and set it to Low.
  3. Save changes and try to start the game.

1. Turn off RayTracing

  1. Press the Windows key + R and type %localappdata%.
  2. Next, go to /alabama/saved/config
  3. Locate the config file and disable RayTracing.

2. Disable Nvidia Reflex Low Latency

  1. Start the game.
  2. Go to graphics settings and disable Nvidia Reflex Low Latency.
  3. Save changes.

3. Underclock your Intel CPU

  1. Download Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.
  2. Run the software.
  3. Set the Performance Core Ratio to a lower value, such as 52x or 51x.

  4. Click on Apply to save changes.

This usually affects Intel’s 13th and 14th generations, but other generations could be affected as well. Other users suggested that removing overclock or underclock settings helped them, so try that as well.

4. Download older Nvidia drivers

  1. Use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove your current Nvidia driver.
  2. Next, download Nvidia driver 561.09.
  3. After installing the driver, check if the problem is resolved.

Avowed crashes at compiling game shaders

1. Run the game in Compatibility mode

  1. Locate the game shortcut, right-click it, and choose Properties.

  2. Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check Run this software in Compatibility mode for and select Windows 8.
  4. Check Run the software as administrator.

  5. Lastly, check Disable full-screen optimizations.
  6. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

2. Run the game with the dx11 parameter

  1. Open Steam, right-click Avowed, and choose Properties.
  2. In the General tab, locate the Launch Options.
  3. Enter -dx11 and save changes.

3. Adjust the registry

  1. Press the Windows key + R and enter regedit.
  2. Navigate to the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography
  3. Double-click the MachineGuid in the right pane.
  4. Change its value to d1eb246e-6243-4460-a88e-5d4e52b1ef6b and save changes.

4. Reinstall the game

  1. Install the latest graphics drivers.
  2. Remove the game.
  3. Install it again.

Avowed stuttering

Use mods

  1. Download Optimized Tweaks mode. Select Manual Download.
  2. Next, go to \Avowed\Content\Alabama\Content\Paks
  3. Create a new folder and name it ~mods
  4. Extract the ~AVDoptimizedTweaksBASE_P.pak from the downloaded file to the ~mods folder.
  5. Optional: Set frames to Unlimited and turn off Vertical Sync.
