Call of Duty: WWII pulled from Xbox PC over hacking fears

GamePass players report remote hacks through RCE exploit

Call of Duty WWII bug fixes

Call of Duty: WWII has been taken offline on the Xbox app for PC after players reported being hacked mid-game. Activision confirmed it’s investigating the issue, though it hasn’t publicly detailed the exploit.

The issue surfaced shortly after the game landed on Xbox Game Pass on June 30. Players claim a remote code execution (RCE) flaw lets hackers take control of their PCs, opening command prompts, triggering notepad popups, and even installing malware.

One player shared video proof of the exploit, where popups labeled “RCE’d” appeared on screen during gameplay. That clip quickly made rounds in the Call of Duty community.

In response, the official Call of Duty Updates account confirmed that the game had been brought offline for investigation. The statement refers only to a general “issue,” but players strongly suspect the RCE vulnerability is at the center of it.

Here’s a quick recap:

  • Only the Xbox PC version is affected.
  • Game was added to Game Pass on June 30.
  • Players reported remote PC takeovers during matches.
  • Activision hasn’t provided a fix or timeline.

Call of Duty: WWII, originally released in 2017, is the fourth mainline title on Game Pass, alongside Modern Warfare 2, MW3, and Black Ops 6. Activision is expected to reveal Black Ops 7 later this summer, with a day-one Game Pass launch already confirmed. For now, players are advised to avoid launching WWII on Xbox PC until the issue is fully resolved.
